It is a\u00a0<u>neurological<\/u>\u00a0problem, and often a lifelong disability that makes performing basic math-related tasks extremely difficult.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cPeople with dyscalculia struggle to tell you whether 7 is more than 5.\u201d<\/em><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/wizblox.com\/index.php\/dyscalculia\/#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is prevalent in about<strong>\u00a05\u20136 %\u00a0<\/strong>of school populations.<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/wizblox.com\/index.php\/dyscalculia\/#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0In grade school\u00a0<strong>1 or 2 students in a class of 30 students<\/strong>\u00a0are likely to have some form of this disability.<\/p>\n<p>In the USA about\u00a0<u>3 million students<\/u>\u00a0have dyscalculia,<\/p>\n<p>Worldwide about\u00a0<u>50 million students<\/u>\u00a0have dyscalculia<\/p>\n<p>Although difficulty with spacial and math reasoning depresses scores on IQ tests dyscalculia is\u00a0<strong><u>Not<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0related to general intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, people with dyscalculia\u00a0<em>often<\/em>\u00a0have enhanced functionality in the related areas of perception and interpretation.<\/p>\n<p>Many brilliant people have had dyscalculia, yet they made great contributions including:\u00a0<strong><em>Benjamin Franklin,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Charles Darwin, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, E.O. Wilson, and Bill Gates<\/em><\/strong>.<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/wizblox.com\/index.php\/dyscalculia\/#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Panamath<\/strong>\u00a0offers\u00a0<strong>free<\/strong>\u00a0dyscalculia screening test:<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a 10 minute, computer-based, visual test for pre-K to adults of quickly seeing two dot arrays (yellow and blue) and asked to select the color of the more numerous dots. It can be used to differentiate people whose math difficulties are likely due to dyscalculia from people whose difficulties are likely due to math anxiety, or other issues.
