Math is the Study of Objects and Their Relationships<\/h2>\n

Observation and analysis are the foundations. Logic and creativity are what you use when you play with Wiz-Blox and solve puzzles.\u00a0It's all about experience:<\/p>\n

Math Education in the United States is failing most students. 3\/4th of high school graduates are NOT proficient in 12th grade math.<\/p>\n

In the United States, as students proceed through school an increasing number of students fall further behind<\/em><\/strong> in math proficiency.<\/p>\n

In grade 4: 40% <\/strong>of students demonstrated math proficiency at 4th<\/sup><\/strong> grade level.<\/p>\n

In grade 8: 33%<\/strong> of students demonstrated math proficiency at 8th<\/sup><\/strong> grade level.<\/p>\n

In grade 12: 25%<\/strong> of students demonstrated math proficiency at 12th<\/sup> <\/strong>grade level.<\/p>\n

The main reason for this failure is that most of the time is spent teaching unrelatable math facts and procedures, rather than developing the understanding of creative, logical mathematical thinking.<\/p>\n

Dyscalculia<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

In Greek and Latin,\u00a0dyscalculia<\/strong>\u00a0means\u00a0\u201ccounting badly\u201d<\/em>, is also known as \u2018math dyslexia\u2019 and \u2018math learning disability\u2019. It is a\u00a0neurological<\/u>\u00a0problem, and often a lifelong disability that makes performing basic math-related tasks extremely difficult.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople with dyscalculia struggle to tell you whether 7 is more than 5.\u201d<\/em>[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n

It is prevalent in about\u00a05\u20136 %\u00a0<\/strong>of school populations.[2]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0In grade school\u00a01 or 2 students in a class of 30 students<\/strong>\u00a0are likely to have some form of this disability.<\/p>\n

In the USA about\u00a03 million students<\/u>\u00a0have dyscalculia,<\/p>\n

Worldwide about\u00a050 million students<\/u>\u00a0have dyscalculia<\/p>\n

Although difficulty with spacial and math reasoning depresses scores on IQ tests dyscalculia is\u00a0Not<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0related to general intelligence.<\/p>\n

In fact, people with dyscalculia\u00a0often<\/em>\u00a0have enhanced functionality in the related areas of perception and interpretation.<\/p>\n

Many brilliant people have had dyscalculia, yet they made great contributions including:\u00a0Benjamin Franklin,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Charles Darwin, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, E.O. Wilson, and Bill Gates<\/em><\/strong>.[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n

Panamath<\/strong>\u00a0offers\u00a0free<\/strong>\u00a0dyscalculia screening test:<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a 10 minute, computer-based, visual test for pre-K to adults of quickly seeing two dot arrays (yellow and blue) and asked to select the color of the more numerous dots. It can be used to differentiate people whose math difficulties are likely due to dyscalculia from people whose difficulties are likely due to math anxiety, or other issues.
